Engela White obtained her degree in architecture in 1991 and contributes 26 years of experience to the repertoire of Wiew Architects. Engela White was employed at Communicare from 1992 to 1994 as junior architect, where invaluable experience in the social housing realm was gained. Consequent to this, Engela furthered her experience in the residential market at the private architectural practice of Louw Apostellellis Bergenthuin, from 1994 to 1998. After this period, she joined the Gauteng Department of Public Works and Transport, from 1998 to 2002, as principal architect and project manager. The Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts & Culture was her client department for the planning of architectural projects in and around the SRAC precincts. Consequent to her employment with the public sector, Engela ventured into the private sector and currently practices as sole director of Wiew Architects, Wiew Architects have served numerous social housing entities during the past nine years: YEAST City Housing; Calgro M3, City of Jobrug Housing Department, Social Housing Regulatory Authority and JOSHCO. Engela has now extended her expert knowledge of social housing to the refurbishment of inner city buildings in the CBD of Johannesburg and Pretoria to accommodate mixed use housing facilities. The regeneration of the historic city fabric to serve the needs of the community is, according to Engela, the epitome of sustainable conservation.
Engela successfully qualified as an Arbitrator with the Association of Arbitrators, South Africa, in 2009. Engela continued the Association of Arbitrator’s contract law courses until she successfully completed the module in Construction Law in 2013. In addition to these qualifications, Engela has acted as Principal Agent on various projects during her career of 25 years in the building industry. Engela applies her experience and qualifications in construction law and the heritage act when ruling on disputes, related to heritage issues.
Engela is currently enrolled for a Master’s degree in Heritage at the University of Pretoria.
